2010

Music Camp 2010 was held July 11–16, 2010. We had 148 campers and 25 staff. Don’t we all look pretty?

The big news about Music Camp 2010 had to be the loss of our beloved Rec Hall. A few weeks before camp, the structure was deemed “unsafe for campers.” Uh-oh! Where will the Band practice? After a few brainstorming sessions, Kristen decided that she could hold daily Band practice outside! The small glen between Cabins 5 and 6 became the new Band room. And in true “blessing in disguise” fashion, it worked really well! The outdoor rehearsals were much cooler than those inside Rec Hall, and it was fun to hear the Band all throughout camp. Thanks for closing the Rec Hall doors, God – you opened an awesome window!

Our days started every morning, bright and early, at 7:00 am. The Polar Bear swimmers made sure that Lake Erie was still cold that early in the morning (it was), while the rest of camp got their blood flowing to Pete & Dave’s typical blend of loud music, goofy jokes, and more loud music. Lots of early-morning dancing – we even had a few “hipsters” bust a move or two…

The weather was very cooperative this year. We were able to spend most of our free time outside. Every day, we had pick-up games of ultimate Frisbee, softball, and volleyball. And you could always find some folks just chillin’ on the vale hillside, playing board games and relaxing in each other’s company.

Monday night we had another Amazing Race – combining solving clues, singing songs, and running all over camp. Tuesday night, we held our Lambec Olympic Games. Each cabin competed in some fierce (but friendly) competition, in games like Blind Beach Blanket Volleyball, Catch/Don’t Catch, Summer Snowballs, Tug Of War, and the ever-popular Stick Toss.

We poked some fun at current movie & TV trends this year. One of our club skits involved a girl named Bella, a muscular guy named Jacob, and a were-skunk named Edward. And this year’s Capture the Flag rules were sung to a Journey medley by some guy from a high school Glee club. Man, he had a high (and tired-sounding) voice…

Thursday was a less active day – we wanted to build our strength back up for Friday night! Our daily Bible Studies gave us chances to study God’s word, learn about His love for us, and connect with God on a personal level. Evening Club time brought us all together to offer our worship and praise in song, drama, and reflections from Karl McDonald, our Club speaker.

We closed Music Camp 2010 with our standard outdoor Band concert, followed by our Choir musical performance of “God Hears” – written by Steven V Taylor, Ryan King, and Jason Breland. There’s no doubt that God heard the praise in our hearts that night. We pray that He continues to hear that praise from us every day.

See you in 2011!
