2008

« 2007 2009 »

Music Camp 2008 took place July 13–18, 2008, with 121 campers and 26 staff.

Even though our beloved Cabin 16 was retired in 2007, the building itself wasn’t torn down until a few weeks before Music Camp 2008. Only the wooden floor and the fireplace remained. Although we were all sad to see Cabin 16 go, the floor/fireplace made for a very nice “observation deck” this year. It was a great place for our Bible Study groups to meet, and it was the site of this year’s staff picture.

We began the week with our traditional “getting acquainted games” led by our rookie counselors. Two of those rookies, Brittney and Kacie, got wonderful new makeovers Sunday night at Club. Looking good, girls!

The Morning Show set up permanent residence at the outdoor chapel, and the campers didn’t seem to miss a beat. They were out dancing to a great mix of Christian rock, ’80s songs, and goofy bits from Pete and Dave every morning.

The weather this year was pretty good – as soon as the campers arrived! There was quite a rainstorm on Saturday while the staff moved in and set up. We even lost electricity for about 7 hours overnight. But that was the last drop of rain we saw all week. The weather for the Friday night concert was perfect (as always, thanks be to God!).

The week seemed to fly by, as it always does. Ted led the Band rehearsals and Jayne led the Choir rehearsals, and the counselors all shared the duties of leading the smaller group Bible Studies. During Free Time, the campers enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities – swimming in Lake Erie, pick-up games of soccer, ultimate Frisbee, softball and volleyball, boating at the pond, or just relaxing in the shade.

Our evening activities included Dave’s Lambec Olympics (with stick-tossing, summer snowballs, the counselor tug-of-war, and lots of other events), a digital camera scavenger hunt, and an acoustic concert by Christian recording artist Brooke Annibale and our own Jeremy McDonald.

This year’s Capture the Flag rules were provided by some guy with a sparkly glove and a high voice. Everybody thought his song was “thrilling.”

We had Club time every night, with Tammy leading the praise band, Pete leading the singing, and Karl giving us some wisdom from the Bible.

The Choir musical for this year was called “Joy in the House,” and there was lots of joy at Music Camp this year. We ended the week with a concert of praise to God, through our band instruments, our voices, and our hearts. We’re glad that our families and friends could come to the concert, and we look forward to seeing you all in 2009!
