2002

Music Camp 2002 was held July 7–12, 2002. This year, we had 162 campers and 30 staff. The entire camp is pictured below.

Again this year Pete and Dave woke us from a restful sleep promptly at 7am. The show this year came from the chapel area that kept the phone calls down this year. However, for Wednesdays show we moved the speakers up to Cabin 16 which did prompt a few calls. And there were news reports that there were unexplained power outages in the Erie county area that began as we arrived, Hmmmm……. I wonder?

This year we had two all camp softball games. Two you ask? You see the Tuesday game was plagued by a sudden downpour (the only rain of the week), unfortunately one of the players was injured and the game suspended.

On Wednesday, our traditional water slide day, the wind was too high to keep the track down. So the softball game was re-played on Wednesday and the slide was on Thursday.

This year we added some new evening activities to go with the the every popular scavenger hunt, and after dark Capture the Flag. We introduced the Music Camp Olympics – which included a some non-traditional events – like the Stick throw, Blind volleyball, Water balloon Volleyball, Frisbee Bowling and much much more. Wednesday brought us a special visit from ‘The King of Rock n Roll’ – Elvis.

That’s right – Elvis visited us and gave his own special rendition of the ‘CTF’ rules. Thursday night, we were entertained with a Christian Rock band. The band had us rocking through the evening.

With the exception of Tuesday, we had beautiful weather all week, especially Friday night for our concert (although it was a little chilly). We again held the band concert at the outdoor chapel, and the choral concert outside of the Chapel, and performed the choral musical “Your Love is Amazing” by Dennis and Nan Allen. And as we said our good-byes until next year and were cleaning up the stage area, we suffered a major power outage at the chapel.
