2013

Music Camp 2013 was held July 7–12, 2013. We had 144 campers this year – that’s 30 more than last year! WooHOO!! (We also had 30 volunteer staff, which isn’t quite as exciting… but still good!)

The campsite had received LOTS of rain earlier in the summer. The Vale and other grassy areas were still pretty water logged, and kind of soupy. Lots of mud and puddles. Everybody watch where you step!

The mud didn’t keep us from dancing in the Vale, though! The “Morning Show” continued to blast classic dance songs, Christian rock, and general goofiness all through camp (and several points far beyond) every morning at 7:00 am. You don’t need an alarm clock – but a pair of rubber boots might come in handy!

Once again, our Band director Kristen wanted to use the “outdoor band room” between Cabins 5 and 6 for daily rehearsals. That space really works well – it’s breezy and shaded so that nobody gets overheated, and it’s great to hear the band playing all throughout camp. But, we did have to move a few of the band practices into Rec Hall 2.0 because of rain early in the week. And our counselors stepped up to lead sectional rehearsals throughout the week as well.

Leave it Jayne to figure out a way to get 30 more people in the Chapel for choir practice without feeling cramped or squished. Choir practice under Jayne’s leadership is always filled proper singing technique, Biblical perspective, and a little silliness thrown in for good measure.

And once again, Katie led (and performed with) a group of campers in our Strings ensemble. It’s nice to see so many campers using their stringed instruments to glorify God at camp. They really class up the joint!

Sunday night’s “New Counselor Shenanigans” found 5 rookies – Liv, Adam, Michelle, Becca, and Brad – all competing in a Lambec Trivia contest. The loser of each round got a pie in the face! And somehow, Joel managed to sneak one extra pie in for our Program Coordinator…

We really enjoy just being with each other at Music Camp. Whether we’re eating in the Dining Hall, or relaxing on the hillside, making music with new friends, or goofing off in silly skits during Club time – there’s always lots of smiling, and lots of laughing.

As is tradition, we got out the waterslide on Wednesday afternoon. Plastic tarp + water + baby shampoo + MUD = a really fun mess. We caught the edge of a pretty nasty storm front that swept through Ohio and PA on Wednesday afternoon, and it soaked the ground again pretty well. We improvised, having an “extra club” session as our evening activity, followed by our regular Club, almost an hour earlier than scheduled. I wonder if any of us REALLY got to the earlier bedtime we were hoping for…?

Wednesday’s storms took all of the humidity with them, and gave us beautiful weather for Thursday. Our annual softball game took place in cool dry air, under sunny blue skies. We moved our traditional game of Capture The Flag to a different field (out by the barn at the main gate) and a new time – 7:00pm! This year’s rules were provided by “No Direction,” Lambec’s own ‘man band.’

Friday night came much too quickly, as it usually does. All the rehearsing we did during the week came to fruition in our Friday night worship service. Everyone did a great job singing, playing, and showing love and gratitude to Father God for a wonderful week, and all the blessings He has given us. Our musical this year was “Help Is On The Way,” by Cliff Duren.
