Music Camp 2012 was held July 8–13, 2012. We had 114 campers and 28 staff. Here’s a shot of the whole camp, followed by a shot of the counselors in our snazzy new staff t-shirts!

Another year, another new thing added to Lambec – Rec Hall 2.0! The two-story building sits right next to Cabin 12, with entrances from both the Vale side and from the road. There’s a kitchenette, bathroom facilities, and LOTS of space on both floors for inside activities. The downstairs has ping pong, pool, and air hockey tables, and creates a nice, cool place to chill out.

For this year, we primarily used the upstairs for instrument storage, but I’m sure we’ll figure out even more ways to incorporate this building into our program.

We had 3 “rookie counselors” this year – Kristen Thomas, James Smith, and Jordan Miller. They each received a celebrity makeover on Sunday night, to make sure they looked their best for the rest of the week.

The week was full of fantastic weather, and lots to do – making crafts, reading through Scripture during Morning Watch, or just hanging out with good friends.

BUT, we also had work to do – we enjoyed another year of outdoor band rehearsal, as well as choir in the chapel (with a broken light or two…!). Our string ensemble took advantage of the shade and cooler temperatures in the lower floor of the new Rec Hall.

On Monday night, there wasn’t an adult to be found. Don’t worry, parents — we didn’t abandon your kids… we just hid from them! Our Counselor Hunt took the campers to lots of rarely-traveled sections of the camp property, looking for our sneaky staff.

Tuesday was full of sports – softball in the afternoon, and the Olympics in the evening! Everything from Tug-Of-War to Summer Snowballs to Ultimate Frisbee to Water Balloon Shotput to Stick Toss (both Horizontal AND Vertical – we don’t skimp on the stick toss!) and lots of other games. In the end, everybody was a winner!

Wednesday brought our traditional afternoon waterslide, which is always a hit. How can 150’ of soapy plastic tarp on a hillside ever be anything but awesome? And of course, our standard evening game of Capture the Flag. This year, the rules were presented by an “incredible” guest star. I’m surprised he didn’t finish his set with “It’s Not Easy Being Green…”

On the heels of the Avenger visit, Thursday was Superhero day. Kudos to those who dressed as their favorite (or MY favorite) superhero. We also had a NEW activity for Thursday night – THE HUNGRY GAMES. A series of fantastically messy, sticky, sugary games that involve dripping, throwing, eating, running, biting, splotching, and just overall mess-ing. The Hungry Games were a big hit. Will we ever do them again? I’d say the odds are ever in favor of that!

Friday brought us more beautiful weather – a great way to celebrate a fantastic week. Our outdoor worship service (disguised as a concert) gave our thanks and glory to God for providing a wonderful experience for everyone. Our string ensemble, vocal ensemble, sign language group, and full band gave their all to Father God. Our full choir ended the evening with the Christian Musical entitled “Are We There Yet?” which speaks of the roads we need to travel to spread God’s message to the world. I know that after a week at Music Camp, campers and counselors alike are ready to walk those roads, sharing God’s love.
