2004

Music Camp 2004 was held July 11–16, 2004; we had 172 campers and 34 staff. One camper was from Mexico, two staff from Brazil, and two CIT’s from Spain. The entire camp is pictured below. Notice the sea of red and green?

Feliz Navidad – Feliz Natal – A few ways you could have heard “Merry Christmas” at camp this year.

This year we went with a Christmas theme for camp, from our musical ‘Totally Christmas’ to the band music – all Christmas inspired, we even had a cabin decorating contest. Monday evening was “Deck the Hall’s night” – Each cabin getting time to put their magic touch on their surroundings. Even the Chapel had lights added to it.

Dave returned this year – and brought a friend, his PC! This years Wake-up was all digital – all the time. Promptly at 7AM (well close anyway) North Springfield was rocking with the boys. And so was the vale – Electric Slide, the Macarana – (the Macarana? what up with that?) Rain had us down a couple of days, but not out – it never stops us at camp – we played through the raindrops.

Tuesday afternoon the sun was out and let us enjoy our all camp softball game. Of course Frisbee and soccer took up most afternoon free times.

Wednesday had off-and-on rain all day – but let up for our annual water slide. But after dinner rain made for a hazardous evening for Capture the Flag. After Pete recited his version of ‘Twas the Night Before…’ we did get in one game before a torrential downpour caused CTF to be ended for the year.

Rain and high winds continued through the night, but were back to off and on rain on Thursday. The rain ended in time for our own Music Camp Olympics. Our special brand of Olympics offer ‘different’ types of games. Crab soccer, blind beach volleyball, water balloon volleyball, stick toss, tug of war – and new this year (in keeping with the Christmas theme) – A snowball battle – Women’s nylons filled with flour – kept the enjoyment going.

Aline returned this year and brought along her sister Priscila. With the help of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery Mission Outreach committee, a couple of churches and a number of individual donors we were able to bring in the Gomes sisters from Igreja Presbiteriana no Jardim America (IPJA) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. They talked with each of the cabin’s about some of their Christmas traditions in Brazil.

Rain threatened early Friday morning causing us to consider a move to the Federated Church in East Springfield. But it held up and we enjoyed probably the best day of the week. And the weather held for our concerts that evening.

We hope to see all the campers and friends next year at Music Camp 2005!
