Music Camp 2003 – LIVE OUT LOUD – was held July 13–18, 2003. This year had 153 campers and 32 staff. The entire camp is pictured below.

With a little twist this year, Pete and Dave’s room-mates woke us from a restful sleep promptly at 7AM. With Dave calling in with entertaining weather and sports reports, the show this year set a record for dancers in the vale. With the chorus of the song “Live Out Loud” saying to “Wake the neighbors – Get the word out – Come on, crank up the music – Climb a mountain and shout”, we knew we had a license to do so – and we did.

We had beautiful weather all week long, the only rain on Tuesday evening and early Friday morning. However we were plagued by the State Health Department closing the beach the first few days because of a bad water report from the previous weekend. Tests returned on Wednesday allowed the beach to be opened at the end of the week. So with no beach the staff ran a water-slide on Monday. Tuesday there were softball and ultimate Frisbee games. Wednesday brought out the water slide again and was enjoyed by all.

For our evening programs this year we brought out the ever popular Counselor hunt (that is to everyone except Jenny Craig). On Tuesday plans for the Music Camp Olympics were scuttled by rain and postponed until Thursday, so we introduced Music Camp Jeopardy. This was a Bible Trivia pitting Bible Study groups against each other in their respective age ranges.

Of course we held our traditional Wednesday night after dark Capture the Flag. This year we had a visit from Billy Bob Peats, who detoured from Jamboree in the Hills to Camp, to sing ‘Shaky Shaky Staff’ and the rules to CTF.

We had a special guest on staff this year. With the help of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery Mission Outreach committee we were able to bring in Aline Gomes from Igreja Presbiteriana no Jardim America (IPJA) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. During Club time she taught us a praise song in Portuguese. She talked with each of the Bible Studies about worship in Brazil, and with each cabin about life in Brazil. We learned that people in other countries (and continents) worship and live like we do in the United States.

Rain early Friday morning caused us to wait till later to set up the choir risers. At noon the weather broke and we enjoyed a beautiful day for our concerts. Thanks to the many contributors that upgraded the electricity in the Chapel we were able to power the concert without any fear of any outages that have plagued us the past few years.

We hope to see all the campers and friends next year at Music Camp 2004!
