1999

« 1998 2000 »

As usual, Music Camp 1999 was held the second week of July, the 11th through 16th, ending with the traditional Friday night program. This year we had 168 campers and 30 staff. Below is a picture of all of the campers and staff.

After a wonderful Band concert put on by 145 of our campers and staff, we headed to the chapel. For the first time we had an outdoor choral concert. This year the musical was “Because We Believe” by Steven V. Taylor. This musical was a worship service, with the campers leading worship.

Again this year we were woken from our restful sleep at 7am. We are greeted by the Pete and Dave Morning Radio show. Pete ‘Cupcake’ Kennaday and Dave ‘Ruts’ Benson, combine their comedy and musical knowledge to start each day.

Powered by technician Kevin ‘Lightning’ Kirschner the boys ‘blast’ their way into our cabins and down the lake. (only one complaint this year).

During the week we enjoyed some new activities along with some old standbys. New additions this year were a Bible trivia game (kinda like Jeopardy while running across camp for the questions), and a counselor fashion show. For the fashion show campers dressed up one of their counselors in what they could find in their cabin, then had to present them to the rest of the camp. We also had a skit night and our traditional after dark Capture the Flag.

On Wednesday afternoon, we had our traditional 200 foot water slide and Tuesday we had our camp softball game.

The softball game is special because at Music Camp one of our mottos is “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing.”

So for our softball game the sound system comes out, an electric keyboard comes out and we have play-by-play commentary and organ music. It’s just like being at the ball yard.

As has always been the case, we enjoyed another successful camp Karl’s inspirational talks which are tied to the musical and the bible study ministered to us all.

We all look forward to next year, the last Music Camp of the millennium.
